Abstract: Catchwords and hot words all have the characteristics of popularity, but the definition of catchwords should refer to the
standard of "innovation". Catchwords can be words, phrases or sentences. Constructional catchwords can be fillers, and mosaic
catchwords are code-mixing. From the view point of eco-criticism, contemporary catchwords have caused a certain destruction to
people's spiritual ecology. The abuse of catchwords leads to the deconstruction of reason, the vulgarization of taste, the solidification of
class, and the decrease of language creativity.

Key words: catchwords, spiritual ecology, destruction
